Opus sectile work by Powell’s of Whitefriars

Opus Sectile Altarpiece

Powell’s Opus Sectile Altarpiece decoration at Church of St Mary the Virgin, Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

TACS is delighted to be able to offer a downloadable copy of the full list of Powell’s of Whitefriars opus sectile locations. The list was compiled by Dr Dennis Hadley during private research at the Powell’s of Whitefriars archive held by the Victoria and Albert Museum, Archive of Art and Design. The list was completed in this form in 2001.

To download the complete 44-page list (with an introduction by Dr Hadley) as a pdf file, just right-click on POWELL’S OPUSLIST (PDF) – you can then open the file and read it, or use the Save option to download it to your computer. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the file – it’s free from the www.adobe.com site.

TACS is very grateful to Dr Dennis Hadley and to the Victoria and Albert Museum, Archive of Art and Design, for allowing TACS to offer the list on this website. Many thanks also to the TACS Glazed Expressions Editor, who transcribed the list into computerised format.

Mention of any site in the Powell’s opus sectile list does not imply any right of access; the list is work in progress and thus may contain inaccuracies. The Victoria and Albert Museum, Dr Dennis Hadley and TACS are not liable for any inconvenience or damage arising from the use of information available in this list.
